Department of Medical Physics started working in 1352 from the establishment of Iran University of Medical Sciences in Ayat A. Taleghani Medical Complex (Batmanqlich Medical Education Complex). At the beginning of the establishment, Mr. Dr. Fatureh Chi was in charge of managing the group, and after him, the responsibility of the group was given to Mr. Dr. Abolfazl Rasouli. At that time, the medical physics department was in charge of conducting medical physics classes and laboratories for medical students, and the experts of the department at that time were Mr. Ershadi and Mr. Kaveh Katouzi. Another activity of the experts and management of the group is teaching physics for other faculties of the university.

Since 1358, for 18 years, Mr. Dr. Bahram Beluri managed the group. Meanwhile, in the first half of the seventies, for several years, Dr. Ali Akbar Sharfi took over the management of the group. During these years, the members of the group have tried to expand and complete the infrastructure of the group with the help of other professors specializing in this field in other faculties of rehabilitation and paramedicine.

During the years of the group's activity, in addition to the medical physics master's course, the specialized doctorate course in medical physics and the medical imaging technology master's course were also created, and the number of faculty members in different trends, educational and research spaces, as well as research facilities have been expanded. Currently, Mr. Dr. Mahdavi is managing this group.

Until 1401, 23 master courses and 13 doctorate courses in medical physics and 5 master courses in medical imaging technology have been held. Currently, the faculty members of the group are doing research in the fields of radiotherapy, radiobiology, dosimetry, ultrasound, optics and laser, nuclear medicine, application of nanoparticles in medical physics and imaging.
